Make Money Reselling Sneakers – A Guide to the Most Popular Styles
As an experienced seller who has been reselling clothes, shoes and jewelry for over 10 years, I can tell you that reselling sneaker shoes can give you the most bang for your buck… but only if you know the hottest and most sought after styles. Collectible sneakers are some of the rarest items of clothing on the resale market because they not only retain their original retail value, but they can often be worth more than the original value on the resale market.
Specific styles of sneakers are made in limited quantities, but are in high demand from sneaker connoisseurs, respectfully known as “sneakerheads.” It takes an insider of this world to know which shoes are worth the time and energy to buy secondhand (or new) and then attempt to resell on apps like Poshmark, Depop, eBay, Mercari and dedicated sneaker sites.
To write this guide, I enlisted the help of my good friend Jay, who has been very actively involved in collecting and selling popular sneakers for decades. He has provided me with a comprehensive list of what resellers should be looking out for when sourcing their inventory, along with a pricing guide on the current street value of these sneakers.
This blog post is meant to be a starting place for beginners into the sneaker world. Hopefully after reading and viewing the photos, you will start to be able to identify sneakers that have value and are worth reselling. At the very least, you’ll know what labels to look for, along with website resources to use as guides.

Understanding the Sneaker Footwear Market
In order to comprehend the resale value of these sneakers, you need to know that we aren’t just talking about shoes that you wear everyday on your feet. They are not utility clothing to get you from A to B. In fact, they’re works of art that are cherished, and often never actually worn.
Understanding the sneaker footwear market requires an appreciation of its dynamic and multifaceted nature, driven by a blend of fashion, athletics, and cultural trends. The market is significantly influenced by high-profile collaborations between brands and celebrities or designers, such as the partnerships seen with Nike and Travis Scott, Adidas and Kanye West, and more. These collaborations often produce limited-edition releases that generate substantial hype and demand, leading to high resale values.
Trends in sneaker design, including the resurgence of vintage models and the popularity of sustainable materials, also play a crucial role in shaping consumer preferences and market dynamics.
Furthermore, cultural phenomena such as streetwear fashion, the influence of hip-hop culture, and social media marketing have propelled the sneaker market to new heights, making it a significant segment of the global fashion industry. Collectors and enthusiasts closely monitor release calendars, brand announcements, and market trends to stay ahead in this competitive and ever-evolving market

The Sneaker Resale Market
The sneaker resale market has emerged as a dynamic and lucrative segment within the broader footwear industry, driven by limited-edition releases, high-profile collaborations, and a growing community of sneaker enthusiasts. Platforms like StockX, GOAT, and eBay have revolutionized the market by providing secure and transparent environments for buying and selling sneakers. These platforms authenticate products to prevent counterfeits, ensuring buyers receive genuine items, which has bolstered consumer confidence and contributed to the market’s rapid growth.
The resale value of sneakers can significantly exceed their original retail prices, especially for rare and highly sought-after models. For instance, collaborations such as the Travis Scott x Air Jordan or Off-White x Nike collections often see resale prices skyrocketing to several times their retail value, sometimes reaching thousands of dollars. The market is also influenced by cultural trends, celebrity endorsements, and social media hype, all of which drive demand and elevate prices.
Moreover, the sneaker resale market is characterized by its volatility, with prices fluctuating based on supply, demand, and the latest fashion trends. Resellers and collectors meticulously track release calendars, market trends, and sales data to capitalize on potential profits. The market’s growth reflects a broader trend of sneakers being valued not just as athletic wear but as collectible items and status symbols, blending fashion, culture, and commerce in a unique way.

All About Limited Edition Sneakers
Limited edition sneakers are a coveted segment of the footwear market, renowned for their exclusivity, unique designs, and cultural significance. These sneakers are often the result of high-profile collaborations between major brands like Nike, Adidas, and Puma, and influential designers, artists, or celebrities. Limited runs ensure that only a small number of pairs are produced, which drives demand and significantly elevates their resale value. Models such as the Nike Air Yeezy, Adidas Yeezy Boost, and Off-White x Nike collections are prime examples, often selling out within minutes of release and reselling for several times their retail price.
The allure of limited edition sneakers extends beyond their scarcity; they often feature innovative designs, premium materials, and intricate details that distinguish them from regular releases. These elements not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also cater to collectors and enthusiasts who view these sneakers as wearable art and cultural artifacts. The hype surrounding limited edition releases is further amplified by strategic marketing, including teaser campaigns, celebrity endorsements, and social media buzz, creating a sense of urgency and excitement.
Collectors meticulously track release calendars and participate in raffles or use bots to secure pairs, knowing that the market value can soar based on demand and the sneaker’s cultural impact. This dynamic has turned sneaker reselling into a profitable enterprise, with platforms like StockX and GOAT providing a marketplace for trading these highly sought-after items. Limited edition sneakers, thus, symbolize the intersection of fashion, culture, and commerce, embodying the zeitgeist of contemporary streetwear culture.

Sneaker Release Dates – Also Known As Drop Dates
Sneaker release dates, also known as drop dates, refer to the specific days when new sneaker models or colorways are officially launched and made available for purchase. These dates are highly anticipated by sneaker enthusiasts, collectors, and resellers, as they mark the opportunity to obtain the latest and often limited-edition releases. Brands like Nike, Adidas, Puma, and others typically announce these dates well in advance to build hype and prepare the market.
To stay informed about upcoming sneaker releases, there are several reliable sources and methods:
Brand Websites and Apps
Major sneaker brands like Nike (through their SNKRS app), Adidas (via the Confirmed app), and others provide official release calendars on their websites and apps. These platforms offer detailed information about the release dates, times, and availability.
Sneaker News Websites
Websites such as Sneaker News, Nice Kicks, and Hypebeast are dedicated to covering sneaker culture and regularly update their readers on upcoming releases, providing dates, images, and purchase links.
Social Media
Following official brand accounts and popular sneaker influencers on platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook can keep you updated on the latest drop dates. These sources often share announcements, teasers, and reminders about upcoming releases.
Retailer Announcements
Retailers like Foot Locker, Finish Line, and JD Sports also announce release dates for sneakers they will be carrying. Subscribing to their newsletters or checking their websites can provide additional information on where and when you can purchase new releases.
Release Calendars
Dedicated sneaker release calendars, such as those found on websites like Sole Collector and KicksOnFire, compile information from various sources to provide a comprehensive schedule of upcoming drops, complete with dates, times, and store links.
By utilizing these sources, sneaker enthusiasts can stay informed about release dates and plan accordingly to secure their desired pairs.

What Are Sneaker Colorways?
Sneaker colorways refer to the specific color combinations and patterns used on a sneaker model. Each colorway is a unique variation of the sneaker, typically distinguished by the colors and designs applied to various parts of the shoe, such as the upper, midsole, outsole, laces, and branding elements. Colorways play a crucial role in the sneaker’s overall aesthetic appeal and often influence the popularity and desirability of a particular model.
Brands like Nike, Adidas, and New Balance release multiple colorways for their sneaker models, catering to different tastes and styles. Some colorways become iconic and highly sought after, often due to their association with celebrities, athletes, special events, or collaborations with designers and artists. For example, the Air Jordan 1 has famous colorways such as “Bred” (black and red), “Chicago” (white, black, and red), and “Royal” (black and blue), each carrying its unique history and significance within the sneaker community.
Colorways are usually given descriptive names that reflect their design inspiration, making it easier for consumers and enthusiasts to identify and refer to them. Limited edition colorways or those released in collaboration with popular figures often command higher prices on the resale market due to their exclusivity and cultural impact.
To keep up with new and upcoming colorways, sneaker enthusiasts often follow brand announcements, sneaker news websites like Sneaker News and Hypebeast, and social media accounts dedicated to sneaker culture.

The Issue with Sneaker Bots
The use of sneaker bots poses a significant issue in the sneaker resale market, creating an unfair advantage for certain buyers and leading to widespread frustration among genuine sneaker enthusiasts. Sneaker bots are automated software programs that can rapidly complete online purchases, often buying out limited-edition releases within seconds of their launch. This practice leaves regular consumers at a disadvantage, unable to compete with the speed and efficiency of bots. As a result, many sought-after sneakers end up in the hands of resellers who then mark up the prices significantly on secondary markets like StockX, GOAT, and eBay.
Retailers and brands have attempted to combat the problem by implementing various anti-bot measures such as CAPTCHA systems, raffles, and exclusive access events. Despite these efforts, sophisticated bots often find ways to bypass security measures, continuing to dominate the market. This ongoing issue not only undermines the shopping experience for everyday buyers but also inflates the resale prices, making popular sneakers less accessible to the average consumer. The sneaker community frequently voices concerns about this problem, calling for more effective solutions to ensure fair access to limited-edition releases.

The New Trend of Buying and Selling Sneaker Replicas – Known as “Reps”
The trend of buying and selling sneaker replicas, commonly referred to as “reps,” has gained significant momentum in recent years, fueled by the skyrocketing prices and limited availability of authentic high-end sneakers. Replica sneakers are often produced to closely mimic the design, materials, and overall appearance of genuine brands like Nike, Adidas, and Yeezy. Enthusiasts of “reps” argue that these replicas offer the opportunity to own and enjoy high-fashion designs at a fraction of the cost, which makes them appealing to a broader audience who may not be able to afford the often exorbitant prices of original releases.
One of the driving forces behind this trend is the high resale value of authentic sneakers, which can be prohibitively expensive for many consumers. Limited-edition releases and collaborations can sell out within minutes, pushing prices on the secondary market to thousands of dollars. As a result, replicas present an accessible alternative for those who appreciate the aesthetic and status symbol of high-end sneakers without the hefty price tag.
Online marketplaces and social media platforms have played a crucial role in the proliferation of sneaker replicas. Websites dedicated to replica sneakers, along with groups and forums on platforms like Reddit, Instagram, and Discord, facilitate the buying, selling, and discussion of “reps.” These communities often share reviews, comparison guides, and sources for high-quality replicas, making it easier for newcomers to navigate the replica market.
However, the replica sneaker market is not without controversy. Critics argue that buying and selling replicas undermines the original creators and brands, leading to potential ethical and legal issues. Brands like Nike and Adidas invest heavily in design, marketing, and athlete endorsements, and the sale of replicas can be seen as infringing on intellectual property rights.
Despite these concerns, the trend of “reps” shows no signs of slowing down. As long as the demand for exclusive and expensive sneakers remains high, and the barriers to obtaining them continue to exist, the market for sneaker replicas will likely continue to grow. Buyers interested in replicas should be aware of the ethical implications and the potential legal risks involved in purchasing and selling counterfeit products.
For more insights and discussions on the trend of sneaker replicas, you can explore forums and articles on platforms such as Reddit and Hypebeast.

Will People Buy Used Sneakers?
Yes, people do buy used sneakers, and there is a significant market for them. The demand for used sneakers is driven by several factors, including the desire for limited-edition releases, high resale prices for rare models, and the trend towards sustainable fashion.
Limited Edition and Rare Models
Many sneaker enthusiasts and collectors are willing to buy used sneakers if it means acquiring a rare or limited-edition pair that is otherwise unavailable. Models like the Nike Air Jordan 1, Yeezy Boost 350, and collaborations with brands like Off-White and Supreme often fetch high resale prices even when used, as their scarcity makes them highly sought after.
Affordability
Used sneakers are often more affordable than new ones, making them attractive to buyers who want high-quality, branded footwear at a lower price. For many, purchasing used sneakers is a way to access premium brands and designs without paying the full retail or inflated resale prices.
Sustainability
The growing awareness of sustainability and environmental impact has led to an increased interest in buying second-hand goods, including sneakers. Consumers are becoming more conscious of the benefits of recycling and reusing items, which helps reduce waste and the demand for new products.

How to Access the Condition and Quality of a Sneaker for Resale
Assessing the condition and quality of a sneaker for resale is crucial to determine its market value and appeal to potential buyers. Here are key steps and considerations to accurately evaluate a sneaker’s condition:
Inspect the Exterior
- Upper Material: Check for any scuffs, scratches, or discoloration on the upper material. Leather, suede, and mesh each have different wear patterns, so understand the material specifics.
- Stitching: Ensure that the stitching is intact and not fraying. Consistent and tight stitching is a sign of good quality.
- Sole Condition: Look at the midsole and outsole for signs of wear. Minimal wear on the outsole, especially around the heel and toe areas, indicates better condition.
Check the Interior
- Insole Wear: Remove the insole and inspect it for signs of wear and tear. The more pristine the insole, the higher the value.
- Lining: Look for any tears or excessive wear in the lining. The lining should be clean and intact.
Evaluate the Original Components
- Laces: Ensure the laces are original and not overly worn. Replacing laces can be easy, but original laces add to the value.
- Box and Accessories: If available, include the original box, tags, and any additional accessories like extra laces or dust bags. These components can significantly increase resale value.
Smell Test
- Odor: A strong or unpleasant odor can be a major deterrent for buyers. Ensure the sneakers are clean and odor-free.
Perform a Flex Test
- Flexibility: Gently flex the sneaker to ensure it hasn’t lost its structural integrity. A sneaker that bends naturally is in better condition than one that feels brittle or overly worn.
Authenticity Check
- Logos and Tags: Compare logos, tags, and other branding elements with verified authentic pairs. Pay attention to details like font, placement, and stitching.
- Serial Numbers: Cross-check serial numbers on the sneaker with those on the box and other verified sources.
Use Professional Services
- Authentication Services: Platforms like StockX and GOAT provide authentication services as part of their selling process. Utilizing these services can assure buyers of the sneaker’s authenticity and condition.
Marketplaces and Resources:
- StockX: Known for its transparent and real-time pricing data, StockX also ensures every sneaker sold is authenticated.
- GOAT: Offers both new and used sneakers, with a detailed inspection process to guarantee quality and authenticity.
- eBay: Features an “Authenticity Guarantee” for sneakers over $100, providing an additional layer of buyer protection.
- Grailed: A community-driven platform where detailed listings and peer reviews help maintain quality standards.
By following these steps, you can accurately assess the condition and quality of sneakers for resale, ensuring you get the best possible price and maintain buyer trust.

Do I Need to Have the Original Shoe Box to Sell Sneakers?
While it is not strictly necessary to have the original shoe box to sell sneakers, having it can significantly enhance the value and appeal of the sneakers. Here are some reasons why the original box matters:
Increased Resale Value
Sneakers sold with their original box often command higher prices. Collectors and buyers typically perceive these pairs as better preserved and more authentic, which can lead to a premium in the resale market. For example, StockX and GOAT listings that include the original box tend to be more desirable and can fetch higher prices.
Authenticity Verification
The original box often includes important details like the shoe size, model number, and colorway, which can help verify the sneakers’ authenticity. This is particularly important for high-value sneakers, where counterfeits are common. Platforms like StockX and GOAT require the original box for certain high-end models to ensure authenticity.
Buyer Confidence
Providing the original box can instill greater confidence in buyers, making them more likely to complete the purchase. It signals that the sneakers have been well cared for and are likely in better condition.
Protection and Presentation
The original box helps protect the sneakers during shipping, reducing the risk of damage. It also enhances the overall presentation, making the sneakers more appealing when unboxing.
However, it is still possible to sell sneakers without the original box. In such cases, sellers should be transparent about the absence of the box in their listings and provide detailed photos and descriptions of the sneakers’ condition. This honesty can help maintain buyer trust and ensure a smooth transaction.

How Do I Know the Resale Value of a Sneaker?
Determining the resale value of a sneaker involves several steps and resources to accurately assess its market worth. Here are key methods and tools to help you gauge a sneaker’s resale value:
Check Resale Marketplaces
Platforms like StockX, GOAT, and eBay provide real-time data on sneaker prices. These sites show recent sale prices, historical price trends, and the current market value based on supply and demand. For example, StockX has a “Stock Market of Things” approach, displaying a sneaker’s price fluctuations and bid-ask spreads, similar to financial markets.
Sneaker Price Guides
Websites like Sole Collector and KicksOnFire often publish price guides and market analyses for popular sneaker releases. These resources provide insights into the average resale prices and the factors driving market trends.
Social Media and Forums
Engaging with sneaker communities on platforms like Reddit (r/Sneakers), NikeTalk, and various Facebook groups can provide anecdotal evidence and collective knowledge on resale values. Experienced resellers and collectors often share their insights and recent sales data, which can be invaluable.
Auction Sites
Reviewing completed listings on eBay can give you a sense of the resale value. Look for the “Sold Items” filter to see what similar sneakers have recently sold for, which provides a practical measure of their current market value.
Price Comparison Tools
Apps like CheckCheck and Legitmark offer authentication services and price comparisons across multiple resale platforms, helping you get a comprehensive view of a sneaker’s value.
Market Trends
Pay attention to market trends and upcoming releases. Sneaker values can fluctuate based on factors like celebrity endorsements, cultural events, or changes in fashion trends. Websites like Hypebeast and Highsnobiety cover these trends extensively.
By utilizing these resources, you can develop a well-rounded understanding of a sneaker’s resale value, ensuring you make informed decisions whether buying or selling.

What Are the Most Popular Shoe Sizes to Sell?
In the sneaker resale market, the most popular shoe sizes tend to be men’s sizes 9 to 11. These sizes are in high demand due to their broader appeal and common fit for a large segment of the population. Consequently, sneakers in these sizes often sell out quickly and command higher resale prices. For example, limited-edition releases or popular models like the Nike Air Jordan 1 or Yeezy Boost 350 in sizes 9, 10, or 11 typically see a significant markup on resale platforms such as StockX and GOAT.
Prices can vary considerably by demand in shoe size. Smaller sizes (e.g., men’s sizes 7 and 8 or women’s sizes 5 and 6) and larger sizes (e.g., men’s sizes 12 and above) may not be as universally sought after but can still command high prices if the demand exceeds supply. For instance, while a size 9 might have many buyers driving up the price, a size 14 might be rare enough that a specific collector or buyer is willing to pay a premium.
The variation in prices based on size is a function of supply and demand economics. Sizes that align with the average population’s foot size tend to have higher production volumes but also higher demand, leading to competitive resale prices. Conversely, less common sizes might have lower production runs, and while their demand is also lower, the scarcity can drive prices up significantly for those particular sizes.

Are Men’s Sneakers More Valuable than Women’s and Kids Sneakers?
In the sneaker resale market, men’s sneakers often tend to be more valuable than women’s and kids’ sneakers. This discrepancy can be attributed to several factors:
Market Demand
- Broader Audience: Men’s sneakers generally have a broader audience and higher demand. The sneaker culture, traditionally dominated by male consumers, has led to a larger market for men’s sizes. Limited releases and popular models are frequently tailored towards this demographic.
- Collector’s Market: Many of the high-profile sneaker collaborations and limited-edition releases are marketed towards men. Collectors and enthusiasts who drive up resale prices typically focus on men’s sizes.
Production Numbers
- Higher Production for Men: Brands often produce larger quantities of men’s sneakers compared to women’s and kids’ sizes. This higher production volume for men’s sneakers ensures they reach a wider audience, increasing their overall market presence and resale activity.
Cultural Impact
- Endorsements and Influences: Male athletes and celebrities, such as Michael Jordan, Kanye West, and Travis Scott, have a significant influence on sneaker culture. Their endorsement deals and collaborations predominantly focus on men’s sneakers, boosting the demand and resale value for these products.
Resale Data
- Resale Platforms: Analyzing data from resale platforms like StockX, GOAT, and eBay shows that men’s sneakers often achieve higher resale prices. For example, models like the Air Jordan 1, Yeezy Boost 350, and Nike Dunk, when released in men’s sizes, consistently fetch premium prices compared to their women’s or kids’ counterparts.
- Specific Releases: High-value releases such as the Air Jordan 1 “Chicago,” Yeezy Boost 350 “Zebra,” and Off-White x Nike collaborations typically have higher resale values in men’s sizes. The scarcity and demand for these models in men’s sizes drive their market value higher.
However, it’s important to note that this trend is not absolute. Some women’s exclusive releases and popular kids’ models can also achieve high resale values, particularly when they are part of a significant collaboration or limited edition drop. For example, the Air Jordan 1 “UNC to Chicago” and the Nike Dunk Low “Coast” (a women’s release) have seen strong demand and high resale prices.

Authentication of Sneakers – How Do I Know If They Are Real?
Authenticating sneakers to ensure they are real involves several steps and can be aided by various resources. First, examine the packaging and labels, as genuine sneakers often come with high-quality, detailed boxes and tags that include barcodes, serial numbers, and brand logos. Look for any discrepancies in the font, color, or size compared to verified authentic products. Next, scrutinize the craftsmanship of the sneakers themselves; authentic pairs typically exhibit precise stitching, premium materials, and consistent color patterns. Pay attention to details like the alignment of logos, the texture of materials, and the weight of the sneakers.
Additionally, using reputable online authentication services such as StockX, GOAT, Mercari or eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee can provide professional verification. These platforms employ experts to inspect sneakers for authenticity before they are sold. Another effective method is to compare the sneakers with verified authentic pairs using detailed photos available on sneaker news websites or collector forums like NikeTalk or Reddit’s r/Sneakers. Some sneakers also have unique identifiers, such as RFID tags or QR codes, which can be scanned to confirm authenticity.
Moreover, engaging with the sneaker community through social media groups or attending sneaker conventions can provide valuable insights and access to knowledgeable collectors who can assist in verifying the authenticity of a pair. By combining these approaches, you can significantly reduce the risk of purchasing counterfeit sneakers

Should I Allow Returns or Refunds on Sneakers?
Deciding whether to allow returns or refunds on sneakers depends on several factors, including the nature of your business, your target market, and your inventory management capabilities. Offering returns and refunds can enhance customer trust and satisfaction, potentially leading to repeat business and positive reviews. It can also attract buyers who may be hesitant to purchase without the option to return if the sneakers don’t meet their expectations.
However, it’s important to establish clear policies to protect yourself from potential abuse, such as return fraud or handling costs associated with worn or damaged returns. Clearly communicate your return policy, specifying conditions such as time limits, the condition of returned items, and any restocking fees. Platforms like eBay and StockX often have their own return policies and guidelines, which can serve as a useful reference when drafting your own. Balancing flexibility with protection is key to maintaining a good reputation while minimizing potential losses.

Should I Post and Sell Sneakers on Social Media?
Posting and selling sneakers on social media can be a beneficial strategy, but it comes with certain risks and considerations. Platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter offer broad reach and can help you tap into a large community of sneaker enthusiasts. Utilizing hashtags, engaging with potential buyers, and leveraging influencer marketing can enhance visibility and sales.
However, it’s essential to be cautious of scams and fraudulent activities. Ensure you verify the authenticity of buyers and consider using secure payment methods such as PayPal to protect both parties. Additionally, be aware of the platform’s policies regarding sales and transactions to avoid any violations that could impact your account. Overall, while social media can be an effective sales channel, it requires careful management and vigilance to maximize benefits and minimize risks.

How to Store Sneakers to Preserve Their Value
Storing sneakers properly is essential to preserving their value, especially for those highly sought after in the resale market. Begin by cleaning your sneakers thoroughly to remove any dirt or stains that could cause long-term damage. Once clean, store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can cause fading and material degradation. Using shoe trees helps maintain their shape, particularly for leather sneakers, while silica gel packets can be placed inside to absorb moisture and prevent mold growth.
Keep sneakers in their original boxes, if possible, as this adds to their value and provides an extra layer of protection. For added safety, consider using clear plastic storage containers, which allow you to see the shoes without having to open multiple boxes. Avoid stacking these containers too high to prevent crushing the shoes at the bottom. Additionally, keeping the shoes in a climate-controlled environment can protect them from extreme temperature fluctuations that could harm the materials. By following these storage practices, you can ensure your sneakers remain in pristine condition, preserving their value for resale.

How to Properly Clean Used Sneakers for Resale
Properly cleaning used sneakers for resale is crucial to maximize their value and appeal to potential buyers. Start by removing the laces and insoles, which can be washed separately using mild detergent and warm water. For the exterior, use a soft brush to gently scrub away dirt and grime, paying special attention to the soles and seams. A mixture of warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap works well for most materials, but for delicate fabrics like suede or nubuck, a specialized cleaner is recommended to avoid damage.
For stubborn stains, a paste made from baking soda and water can be applied and left to sit for a few minutes before brushing off. After cleaning, wipe the sneakers with a damp cloth to remove any soap residue, and then let them air dry naturally away from direct heat sources, which can warp or discolor the materials. Additionally, deodorize the interior with baking soda or a commercial shoe deodorizer to ensure the sneakers smell fresh. By following these steps, you can restore used sneakers to a near-new condition, making them more attractive and valuable in the resale market.

Sneaker Selling and Buying Scams to Avoid
Navigating the sneaker resale market requires vigilance to avoid falling victim to scams, which are unfortunately common in this lucrative industry. One prevalent scam involves counterfeit sneakers, where sellers pass off fake products as authentic, often making it difficult for buyers to distinguish the difference. Always buy from reputable platforms like StockX, GOAT, or directly from verified retailers to ensure authenticity. Another common scam is the “bait-and-switch,” where a seller advertises a highly sought-after sneaker at a reasonable price but sends a different, less valuable pair. To avoid this, check seller reviews and ensure they have a history of positive feedback.
Additionally, beware of phishing scams where fraudulent websites mimic legitimate ones, aiming to steal personal and financial information. Always verify the website’s URL and look for secure connections (https://) before entering any details. It’s also wise to avoid deals that seem too good to be true, as these are often red flags for scams. Using secure payment methods, like PayPal, which offer buyer protection, can also help mitigate risks. By staying informed and cautious, buyers and sellers can protect themselves from these common pitfalls in the sneaker resale market.

Sneaker Brands to Avoid for Resale
In this blog post I’ve listed out many popular sneaker brands that either hold their retail value, or actually increase in value after being purchased. That being said, this is not the case with all sneakers. There’s certain brands that resellers should avoid if they are looking to earn a decent profit or income. Not all shoes are created equal when it comes to the resale market because they will not fetch high prices from buyers.
The following shoe brands are not worth your time to post for sale and try to sell:
- Sketchers
- Target Shoe Brands like Goodfellow
- Walmart Shoe Brands
- Soda Brand Shoes
- Nautica
